Welcome to Worship Creatively SFBC

If you are reading this, a few things are potentially true:

  1. You may or may not be a Christian.
  2. You may or may not refer to yourself as an artist.
  3. Our logo was highly effective.

At any rate, you certainly are interested in communicating what God has revealed to you about Himself, and you are at least “toying” with the possibility of sharing it with other like-minded people.

That’s why you are here, so here is all the information you will need. The Worship Creatively 2012 Festival theme is:

THREEQUAL: CELEBRATING THE TRINITY

We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons:
God the Father – Exodus 3:5–6, 14 and Revelation 4,
God the Son – John 1:1-5, 14 and John 14:6,
God the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:22-26.

We believe these three persons are one God, having precisely the same nature, holiness, attributes, and perfections, and are worthy of the same homage, confidence, and obedience. All glory and honor is theirs.

Our theme verses are John 15:1-16:15. Of course we ask that each artist or patron read these verses first and allow God to speak directly to your heart as you prepare to create for your Creator, after which you are free to be inspired by any part of Scripture that speaks to our theme.

Now for all the particulars:

REGISTRATION
The art registration form must be completed and received by noon on June 11, 2012. Registration opens May 11, 2012. Contact Mo Sanford after April 11 if you do not have internet access to register online. No incomplete entry forms will be accepted. Being a “creative” myself, I understand the resistance to all things “clerical”. But, no exceptions on this, okay?

A digital image of your submission must be attached to your registration form for Phase One of the acceptance process. In the case of film, a preliminary or concept board is acceptable; a final will need to be provided on art delivery day if your work is accepted for the show. You must also attach your completed artist statement with the registration.

CRITERIA
Artwork will be accepted at registration based on general show rules and the set minimum requirements of quality and expectations of the art festival committee. The artwork accepted from entries will then be juried by our jurors after delivery. Our esteemed panel of judges will proceed by “blind jury,” meaning they will not know the identity of any artist, only the title and statement. The pieces selected by the jurors will compose the show. They will consider artistic merit and appropriateness to our theme, both in artwork and statement. Works must score highly in both categories to win. No entry that is vulgar, immoral, pornographic, lewd, or otherwise not in keeping with the biblical revelation of God will be accepted.

Our goal in this show – OUR ONLY GOAL  - is to glorify God. Therein, “Worship Him Creatively”. Will someone be Best of Show? Yes. Will others receive acclaim and honor? Absolutely. But we will not endeavor to glorify any name except the name of God.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT
Each artist statement must not exceed 100 words in length as determined by digital entry. It must appropriately address our theme for submission in order to receive points but is not heavily weighted in judging. Clarity, brevity, and focus will be considered. This statement is not for biographical purposes but rather is to be an inspirational statement of the work.

ARTWORK DELIVERY DATE
All art will be received on July 20 and 21, 2012. If a work has been judged not to fit within the theme, Sunnyvale First Baptist Church art committee will reserve the right to reject it upon registration or the date of delivery, at which time the artist may take it home. All artists will be contacted by email or phone as to the status of acceptance. Once notified, accepted art will be juried from July 23 – August 3, 2012.

A $25 entry fee (cash or check) will be due upon delivery for the first registered piece and a fee of $10 for each additional piece will apply. This fee will be collected at the time the work is delivered. If the piece is not accepted for delivery, or is rejected during registration, no fees will apply.

The entry fees for the children’s category is $10 for the first registered piece and $5 for each additional piece (maximum two pieces).

LIMITATIONS
Artists in the professional and amateur categories must be 14 years of age or older. Anyone under the age of 14 will fall under the children’s heading. Due to space limitations, only two entries will be allowed per person or group of artists. A limited amount will be chosen from all submissions to be exhibited during the jury process.

A professional artist is defined as any person who is currently or has previously worked in the community as an artist. Amateur artists include the rest of us. Children are defined as anyone 13 years of age or younger.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS
All artwork is to be delivered on July 20 or 21, 2012 – in person, if at all possible. (Contact Mo Sanford if your submission is from another planet…say…New York City!!!) Deliveries will be received between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at 3018 N. Beltline Rd., Sunnyvale, TX 75182.

Volunteers will be on hand to assist artists, insure that there is no pre-existing damage, handle waivers and help to unload artwork. No artwork will be accepted after that time or on those dates. Any works needing to be shipped, couriered or mailed should be clearly marked and insured through your carrier. If it comes to us broken, we’ll assume it is repentant.

All artwork must arrive no later than July 21, 2012 in order to be considered. Artist supplied film equipment must be delivered by pre-arranged appointment no later than August 27, 2012.

SALE OF ARTWORK
Unless otherwise stated and agreed to at registration, all pieces entered will be available for sale by consignment with the artist receiving 75% of their listed price and “Worship Creatively” SFBC receiving 25% to help defray the cost of the show. Short film artists may supply copies of their film for sale. All unsold pieces can be picked up by the artist (showing I.D.) on Monday September 17 and Tuesday September 18th from 3-6 p.m. Out-of-town art will be return shipped at the artist’s expense. If you cannot pick up your work in person, please make arrangements with Mo as to whom will pick up the work. Only unforeseeable exceptions will be considered for early or delayed pick-up.

All art not picked up or shipping arranged will become the property of Sunnyvale First Baptist Church and will be decorating our offices…! Just sayin’.

WAIVER
All artists will sign a waiver releasing Sunnyvale First Baptist Church from liability, damage or theft. We agree to do our utmost to protect and provide a safe, secure environment in which to worship. Security – Yep, we have it covered. If waiver is refused, your artwork will be also.

AWARDS
As if worshipping God is not enough, we will have ribbons to impress your friends and family with for the three top spots of honor in each group for each of the following categories: 1) Drawing and Painting; 2) Crafts and 3-Dimensional works; and 3) Photography, Film and Media. There will be a cash award of $500 for “Best of Theme” winners in each of these three categories, “Best of Show” award of $1,000, and a “Viewer’s Choice Award” voted on by the viewers of $250. We will also provide a catalogue of artists and winners will be highlighted.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Two dimensional works appropriately framed (no clip frames, please). Your work should be ready for wall mounting and must not exceed a framed size of 46 inches in any direction. Gallery expose wrap canvas with no exposed staples will be accepted if it is properly wired to hang and all exposed canvas is painted.
  • Sculpture footprint must not exceed 2 ft. x 3 ft. x 46 inches in height. Artist must provide appropriate stand. (We don’t count the stand in the maximum dimensions, but please don’t perch your art on a telephone pole…OK?)
  • Short film must be formatted on a disc for continuous looping. (You may choose to submit your entry using your own equipment, however, the artist assumes responsibility and liability for it.)
  • Pottery, textiles, etc. must provide adequate supports (rod, pedestal, etc.) with which to display their art piece.

The art festival committee reserves the right to exclude any work that exceeds size limitations, presents dangerous or unusual installation problems, is incredibly fragile, cannot be handled by our trusty volunteers, is improperly framed or is damaged upon receipt. No unfinished or wet works will be accepted.
